Thank you very much for everything you´ve done for the Teacher Appreciation Week. I greatly appreciate the beautiful flowers and cards. We enjoyed as well the luncheon with all the teachers and the Preschool Staff.
During last weeks, we have talked about Amphibians and Reptiles. We learned the names in Spanish for different animals as we had songs, games and videos. We talked about “Arboles” (trees) how important they are for our planet. We planted trees with different shapes (circulo, ovalo and triangulo) and watered them to let them grow.
One of the favorite topics of the month for your little ones was “Bugs and Butterflies”. It was fun to pretend we were caterpillars and then extend the wings as a butterfly meanwhile we were singing our “Mariposa” (butterfly) song. We also had a real “Cucaracha” (Cockroach) in our classroom. Younger children were excited talking about their experiences seeing “cucarachas”. We sang “la Cucaracha” song and the older children draw different insects on the board as we learned the names for them in Spanish.
With the Preschoolers we had also a running competition of bugs. It was fun!
As we begin the final month of school, we will be practicing for the Sunshine Day. You could also encourage your children to practice the words of our sunshine day songs with you at home. They are very excited about singing in Spanish for you on such a special day for all of us!
It´s hard to believe there are only few more weeks left of school! All these months teaching Spanish to your children have been definitely a rewarding experience for me. Each of them has been special and l appreciate you allowing me to teach them my native language. It´s been a true joy to see their progress. I have tried to make that your child feels that learning a second language is a fun “adventure”. I´m very proud of them since they are truly engaged and enthusiastic about learning Spanish.
If you want to reinforce what your child already know during the Summer break you could read books in Spanish at home, play CDs or DVD´s. One excellent way of teaching is to begin to add Spanish vocabulary words and phrases into the daily routine of your child. Don´t worry if you do not speak a second language, you can always purchase a good dictionary. Remember the earlier the better to build the pathways within their brains.
