Adult students from about 29 nationalities meet at Dunwoody Baptist Church each Thursday morning and evening during the school year to learn English and to experience American culture, including Christian life.
ESOL, DBC's active mission school, had over 200 students for the 2009-2010 school year. ESOL has more than 60 volunteers that teach, provide hospitality, place students and administer the morning and evening classes. The school meets once a week on Thursdays from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm. The session is followed by an optional Bible Study class taught by Louie Bentley from 12:10-1:00 pm.
ESOL's school year runs from September through the end of April and meets in DBC's D Building on the third floor. ESOL school offer beginner, intermediate and advanced classes and accent reduction. The fee of $40.00 covers a student book and materials, snacks and drinks each week plus special celebration events for holidays and graduation. If students register on or after February 1, the fee is reduced.
Classes are sponsored by the church with volunteer staff from DBC and other churches. Volunteers are needed for teaching, hospitality/food set-up, basic administrative support, extra helpers in the classrooms, etc.
