Our Mission, Vision and Purpose
Who are we? Why are we here? What are we to do?

Who are we? (Our Vision)
The Vision is a living idea.  It states as clearly as possible who the Church commits to be.
We envision a church that is passionately becoming more like Jesus and is committed to transforming our community and the world.

Why are we here? (Our Purpose)
God has called each church to a unique place and time and reason for being in order to play its role in His plan.

What are we to do? (Our Mission
To love Jesus and become more like Him.

The Truths We Believe

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.  It is the revelation of His will for salvation and the only unfailing rule of faith and practice for the Christian life.

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that these three are co-eternal and of equal dignity and power.

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ; His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit; His virgin birth; His sinless life; His death on the cross; His resurrection; His ascension to the right hand of the Father; and His imminent return.

We believe that man was created by and for God and that man was created in God’s image.

We believe that by man’s disobeying God, every person incurred spiritual death, which is separation from God, and physical death as a consequence; and that all people are sinners by nature and practice.

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross and that He was a perfect, atoning sacrifice.  We believe that all who believe in Him are declared righteous because of His sacrificial death and the subsequent grace that follows.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit indwelling all believers, enabling and empowering the life and ministry of the believer.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of everyone who has lived, the everlasting blessedness of those in right relationship with God, and the everlasting punishment of those who have rejected God’s forgiveness in His Son.

We believe the Bible teaches that Christ shall come again and that we are to live in an attitude of expectancy.

We believe in the Holy Ordinance of Baptism by immersion in water.  It is to be participated in by believers and is a picture of death to sin, burial and resurrection with Him in newness of life.

We believe in the Holy Ordinance of the Lord’s Supper.  We believe it is to be celebrated as a command of Jesus and that the elements of bread and wine, representing His Body and Blood, are divine symbols of His sacrifice for the souls of humanity.

We believe in the power of prayer and believe that it is a command of Jesus.

Core Values

Core Values are non-negotiable, in that everything that DunwoodyBaptistChurch does must be done with these guiding principles in mind.  To do something counter to these values would not be consistent with the mission of Dunwoody Baptist. DunwoodyBaptistChurch draws all authority, including our Core Values, from Scripture as the Holy Spirit leads and identifies.  A member of DBC will serve the real and felt needs of people, both in their community and beyond.  This way of living involves intentionality and purpose.  All of life is seen as a series of missional opportunities, reflecting Jesus in each and every relationship.

Authority of Scripture: The Bible is the true and living Word of God, shaping our very lives as we journey through the ebb and flow of daily living.  (Psalm 12:6; 2 Timothy 3:16 -17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

Worship: adoration of the risen Christ, (Psalm 95:6; John 4:23-24; 1 Chronicles 16:29)

Discipleship: embracing and sharing the living Word of God, (Luke 9:23-24; Matthew 28:16-20; Ephesians 2:11-13)

Community: intentionally fostering meaningful relationships with others.(Acts 2:42-47; Philippians 2: 1-18; Hebrews 10:24-25)

Sharing: embracing opportunities to compassionately proclaim and share the living Word of God with others in word and in deed. (Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:11-21; Matthew 5:14-16; 1 Peter 3:15; 1 Thessalonians 2:8)

Missional: Empowering people to use their passion on purpose to be the presence of Christ. (Luke 10:29, John 13:14-15, I Corinthians 4:1, Mark 10:45)

Prayer: everything we do will be under-girded and surrounded by fervent prayer. (1 Thessalonians 5:17; John 15:5-16; 2 Chronicles 7:14)

Ministry Priorities

DunwoodyBaptistChurch believes that how we accomplish our mission is as important as the mission itself.  Therefore, we seek to glorify God through characteristics that honor people and exalt the Lord. Just as a family is accountable to one another, we as a church family and all members of the Body of Christ are also accountable to the Lord.  The maturing follower of Christ celebrates their unique giftedness, yet takes seriously the new nature of who they are and who they are becoming in Christ.  This new nature, if properly nurtured, ultimately transforms the entirety of one’s life and the following characteristics will become more evident as one submits to the standard as defined and embodied by Jesus Christ.

A Christ follower will…

  • Be a person of character – a result of a growing relationship with Jesus Christ; lives characterized by integrity; solid, stable and secure.
  • Honor others – providing an atmosphere of respect where each person can contribute and thrive.
  • Pursue graceful relationships – practicing thoughtfulness, kindness, generosity, courtesy, freedom, forgiveness, encouragement, and appreciation of others’ differences as we inspire greatness in those around us.
  • Pursue excellence – reflecting the infinite excellence of the God we serve; producing the highest quality ministry programs, materials, and personal service possible.
  • Glorify God – living by faith; entrusting our talents, finances, and plans to God’s control.
  • Be accountable to one another – a willingness to answer for one’s life, characterized by vulnerability, teachability, honesty, and availability.
