Young 5's Transition
Give Your Child the Gift of Time
Kindergarten has changed. The block center, home-living and easel no longer occupy center stage in the kindergarten classroom. State standard, parental expectations and improved reading and math curriculum have reshaped the kindergarten day and increased the academic focus. Four year olds and young five year olds are eligible to start school although they are not always ready for extended teacher directed lessons and a longer school day.
The Young Five's Program at Dunwoody Baptist Preschool nurtures and challenges the young child in developmentally appropriate ways while allowing the children time to enjoy traditional kindergarten activities as they increase academic skills, self confidence and ease in social relations.
The Young Five's Program is well suited for children with summer and fall birthdays and those who are coping with life changes or challenges that impact the child's ability to cope with the transition to formal school. For these children, emotional, social and physical development is particularly important. To foster these needs, the Young Five's classes enjoy participating in various field trips throughout the year.
The Young Five's Program is not another year of preschool. The curriculum develops language arts, science, social studies and math skills aligned with kindergarten standards. The pace of the day and the smaller class size are perfect for some children. The teachers and staff work closely with you to make your child's transition to elementary school as seamless and positive as possible.
