A GENEROUS PEOPLE
2 Corinthians 8:1-12
Three truths concerning generous giving:
Reality: It isn’t always easy.
Fact: It is about sacrifice.
Simply put: It is a matter of the heart.
The example of the Macedonians:
1. Their giving was not determined by their circumstances.
2. They gave out of their joy and willingness.
3. They gave according to their ability and beyond.
4. They gave themselves first to the Lord.
5. Their giving was an act of grace.
The example of Christ:
1. He gave out of His unconditional love.
2. He gave sacrificially for others.
3. He gave to glorify the Father.
What do I need in order to be a generous giver?
1. Prayer
2. Faith
3. Plan
4. Practice
Final thought:
Giving generously is a privilege, not an obligation. It is an opportunity to show my gratitude to the Lord for all He has done for me and others. It is my act of worship.
Paul reminds us in Acts 20:35 the words the Lord Jesus himself said:
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
