Policy Manual
2009-2010
Welcome to DSA! Dunwoody School for the Arts, a ministry of Dunwoody Baptist Church, is devoted to promoting excellence in the arts through specialized training in a strong learning environment. Under the direction of highly competent instructors who are given to the development of the total life experience of each student, DSA is one of the many vital programs here at Dunwoody Baptist Church.
We are so happy your child(ren) will be with us this year. Our school offers private lessons, dance, drama, Kindermusik® and various summer camps. Private lessons are divided into (3) 12-week sessions during the year as well as a flexible summer session. Kindermusik® is divided into (2) 15-week semesters. Dance will be a little different this year. The fall semester will be 13 weeks and the spring semester will be 16 weeks so the price will vary between the two semesters.
Please read the policies below. These should inform you of our schedule, fees and other policies that will help things run smoothly. If you have any other questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to call or email me at (jhendrix@dbc.org). The office number is 770-280-1215 and my cell phone number is 770-241-5668.

DSA ATTENDANCE & PAYMENT POLICIES
DSA Attendance and Make-up Policy
Students are expected to attend each scheduled lesson within the 12-week semester. We can allow one make-up per 12-week semester. The teachers should have at least 36 hours notice for non-emergencies for you to be eligible for a make-up lesson. Please contact your teacher as soon as possible if you are unable to get to your lesson due to illness or other unavoidable problems.
DSA Payment Policy
Payment for the semester is due on or before the second lesson. Checks should be made out to DSA. Our mailing address is 1445 Mt. Vernon Rd., Dunwoody, GA 30338. A fee of $5 will assessed each 30 days that your payment is outstanding and your lessons will be terminated. You will be obligated for the full semester fee. Payment arrangements are available through the DSA office on a case per case basis.
We are now able to offer credit card tuition payments. For now we will run it through Heather (you will have to call or stop by her office with your information) but hope to make it available as an online service at some point. We will be able to accept full payment for the semester's tuition OR offer monthly installments to the credit card number we have on record. Because there are additional expenses associated with the use of credit cards, we will add a $2.00 per transaction fee to payment installments. There will be no extra charge for payment in full. We hope this will make it easier on our DSA families.
DSA Withdrawal Policy
Your desire to withdraw from DSA must be presented to the director in written form. If you choose to withdraw after 20 days into the semester, you may be eligible for a refund but you may also be charged a 20% processing fee for the remainder of your lessons. Refunds will be determined on a case by case basis.

sPANISH
Research shows children's brains are primed to learn language from a young age and starting early has long-term benefits, such as better analytical and multi-tasking skills. At DSA we immerse children in the language - each includes story time, songs and games ALL IN SPANISH! Since we believe that the best learning takes place at home, our instructor will offer great ways to extend the language at home so that you can include it in your everyday routine.

December 21 – January 2 Christmas Break
April 5 – 10 Spring Break
Classes will be held on Monday holidays unless indicated on this schedule.
Village (newborn-18mths) is a 45-minute class. Fulfilling your baby’s endless potential is an exciting opportunity that starts with Kindermusik® VillageThis is a mom/dad and child activity.. In class, learn how to stimulate your child’s learning through vocal play, object exploration and creative movement. We’ll provide you with more tools to continue the enrichment at home.
Our Time (18mths – 3 yrs) is a 45-minute class. Kindermusik® Our Time introduces your child to a musical world filled with singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, sound identification, instrument exploration, and creative movement. The “at home” materials are designed to help your child continue learning at home to improve confidence, self-control, and communication skills. This is a mom/dad and child activity.
Imagine That! (3-4 ½ years) is a 45-minute class. Kindermusik Imagine That! pairs music with expressive language, storytelling, peer interaction, movement, and pretend play. Your child will further expand his cognitive and literacy skills as well as creativity and individuality. “At home” materials include illustrated literature books, pretend play set, double CD, and instrument. This class includes many materials. Parents join us for the last 15 minutes.
Family Time (6mths – 5 years) is a 45-minute class. In this class, you’ll see how music helps your family laugh together, share, take turns, and how musical learning really can be a family thing. How your little one watches the older one – and learns from him. How early exposure to rhythm and rhyme develops the skills they need now and later in school. The “at home” materials include: one hand puppet and one finger puppet, two instruments, two literature books, two CDs and Sing, Play and Grow! Activity Book.
Young Child (4 ½ - 5 years) is an hour class. Kindermusik® for the Young Child continues the musical journey with a pressure-free approach that includes exposure to various types of multicultural music. Here, your child can explore vocal development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols, and authentic pre-keyboard, stringed, and wind instruments. With the “at-home” materials, your child will not only find out what a glockenspiel is, she’ll learn to play it. Parents and siblings join us for the 15-minute sharing time at the end of the class.
Classroom Policies
Since toys can sometimes be a distraction, we ask that you please leave most toys at home. A favorite stuffed animal is the exception to that rule and is welcome to visit with us. If you miss a class, you are invited to attend another class for your child’s age.
DSA wants you to have the best possible experience with your child. Therefore, it is preferable to leave other children with caregivers so you can focus on the child(ren) enrolled in the class. If this is impossible, we recommend you take the Family Time class which is structured for siblings. Siblings are also invited to attend the sharing times at the end of Imagine That! and Young Child.
