Dunwoody Baptist Preschool
Who We Are
Our vision is to inspire the love of learning by nurturing and educating each child within a Christ-centered environment.
We believe that all "children are a gift from the Lord." - Psalm 127 : 3

We offer age and developmentally-appropriate education and activities in creative atmospheres that meet the individual needs of our children and encourage healthy self-esteem. Most of all, we want the children to know that they are important and lovable, just as God created them.

Our school was established in 1969 as part of Dunwoody Baptist Church. We are a COGNIA-accredited school with approximately 160 children from 6 months of age to 5 years of age and 30 staff members, including classroom lead teachers and assistant teachers as well as teachers for science, music, gym, and chapel. We offer 5-day classes for all age children along with 2, 3, and 4-day options for children in babies, Toddlers and Two's classes.
Our Schedule
Our school hours are 9:00am to 1:00pm. We offer Early Morning drop-off at 8:00am and Extended Day from 1:00pm to 2:25pm. Our school year is September - May.
Our Classrooms
Every classroom is bright and engaging. All classes have 2 teachers who love nurturing and teaching young children about the world around them and about Jesus Christ.
Mission & Philosophy
Our goal is to provide a quality Christian weekday education in our church that will promote each child's maximum growth and development.
Accreditation
Dunwoody Baptist Preschool is accredited by Cognia and is recognized nationwide as a school that meets and/or exceeds Cognia’s Standards of Quality.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is theme-based and developmentally/age-appropriate for all classes. Character education themes and connected Bible verses are part of our daily program. Our day consists of a combination of structured activities and free play.

Schedule
Music
Babies (6 mos - 13 mos), TODDLERS (14 mos-23 mos), & 2’s - Our studetns have a trained teacher who helps them explore music using puppets, finger plays, musical instruments, and scarves.
3’s, 4’s, & YOUNG 5’s - Our children sing, play instruments, and learn musical concepts. At Christmas and Sunshine Day (at the end of the year), these children present a music program for their families in the Worship Center.
Gym
2’s, 3’s, 4’s, & YOUNG 5’s - This class is in our wonderful Sports Center, where the gym teacher creates a fun, unintimidating, and non-competitive environment as the children are introduced to sports and different ball skills. Emphasis is placed on exercise and keeping our bodies healthy.
In April, all Gym students participate in a fun Field Day, where we celebrate their growth in skills of our children on our Dunwoody Baptist Church Soccer Field!
Chapel
2's, 3’s, 4’s, & YOUNG 5’s - The children sing, pray, and learn a Bible story and verse in a fun way through puppets, flannel boards, role-playing, games, etc. This is a cornerstone of our curriculum.
Our Chapel class follows our integrated Bible Curriculum, which has a 3-year scope and sequence. Children experience God's truth, values, and love in a tangible way. All children in 2's, 3's, 4's, Pre-K, and Young 5's receive a personalized Bible at our annual Chapel Bible Presentation.
Science Class
TODDLERS, 2's, 3's, 4's & YOUNG 5's - Our Science Lab features beautiful murals, classroom animals, unusual specimens, books, and various manipulatives that are used to provide a hands-on experience for our students.
- We have a sweet Russian Tortoise named Tillie, a fluffy white bunny named Max, and a curious Bearded Dragon named King Louie (Pasteur) III, ! Our classroom also includes unique specimens such as an alligator skull, turtle shell, emu and ostrich eggs, a variety of bird nests, wasps’ nests, ‘found’ butterflies and bugs, horseshoe crab exoskeleton, sharks teeth, and more!
- We have many non-fiction books with beautiful photographs to help children see what they can only imagine. Manipulatives are used to show how simple machines work. Equipment and supplies are on hand to conduct various experiments.
- A recent addition to the lab is an Epson Interactive Whiteboard. We are excited to be able to view world science events and wildlife habitats, along with the addition of fun, interactive software for early childhood classrooms.
The children continue to inspire us to improve the classroom through their inquisitive nature and thirst for learning.
Give your child the gift of time.
Kindergarten has changed. The block center, home-living, and easel no longer occupy center stage in the kindergarten classroom. State standards, parental expectations, and improved reading and math curriculum have reshaped the kindergarten day and increased the academic focus. Four-year-olds and young five-year-olds are eligible to start school, although they are not always ready for extended teacher-directed lessons and a longer school day.
The Young 5's program at Dunwoody Baptist Preschool nurtures and challenges young children in developmentally appropriate ways while allowing them time to enjoy traditional kindergarten activities as they increase academic skills, self-confidence, and ease in social relations.
Our program is well suited for children with summer and fall birthdays and those coping with life changes or challenges that impact the child's ability to cope with the transition to formal school. Emotional, social, and physical development is particularly important for these children. To foster these needs, the Young 5's classes enjoy participating in field trips throughout the year.
This is not just another year of preschool. The curriculum develops language arts, science, social studies, and math skills aligned with kindergarten standards. The pace of the day and the smaller class size are perfect for some children. The teachers and staff work closely with you to make your child's transition to elementary school as seamless and positive as possible.
If you would like more information about our Young 5's program or would like to observe a class, please email the DBC Preschool Director, Lesley Kammerer.
