Baptism

Baptism is one of the most important parts of Christian life because Christ commanded that we be baptized. It was important to Christ so it should be important to us. While it is not essential to our salvation, we believe that a believer must have been baptized by immersion to be eligible for church membership at DBC.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you are ready to be baptized. (Acts 2:41) Because Jesus instructed us to be baptized, baptism is an act of obedience and it demonstrates submission to God.

We immerse at Dunwoody Baptist Church because we believe Scripture shows that Jesus modeled that for us as the way to publicly acknowledge our faith in Him.

What Baptism Symbolizes

Baptism is a way of showing others that you have entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ. It symbolizes what takes place in your heart at the time of salvation:

  • Have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life
  • Are sharing in His death and resurrection, illustrated by going under the water (dead to your old life), then rising again (new life) (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • Are symbolically washed clean, and sins were forgiven by His death on the cross

When Can I Be Baptized?

Baptisms occur during Sunday worship services or in the Prayer Garden at 12:30pm using our portable baptistry. To schedule your baptism, please email Sarah Dooley.
