DSA's Health & Safety Procedures

Dunwoody School for the Arts is committed to the safety, health, and well-being of everyone who visits our campus. As we have resumed our classes/lessons on campus for the 2022-2023 School Year, we have implemented several procedures to help protect the DBC community and our DSA families (which are described in the first section below). Being part of this family, you also have some responsibilities to help us ensure the safety of everyone on campus and those details follow in Part II.

Part I: DSA’s Response

We can proudly say that we've implemented several measures to prevent illness within our community. Here are a few highlights:

  • Our facilities team is using recommended antiviral cleaners to properly disinfect public access areas of the church daily. We have increased sanitizing measures for bathroom fixtures, doorknobs, light switches, water fountains, and other high-contact surfaces.
  • Additional hand sanitizer stations are readily available in gathering, educational, and recreational spaces throughout the church campus.
  • In the Sports Centers and Fitness, equipment will be thoroughly sanitized each day. New signs will encourage good hand-washing practices. Locker rooms will receive special treatments every day.
  • Instructors will wash their hands upon arrival and will apply hand sanitizer between student lessons. Special cleaning products will be provided for shared instruments. New signs in restrooms and dressing areas will encourage good hand-washing techniques.
  • An established carpool system will be available for our dance students. Staff members along with a volunteer parent will facilitate the carpool line for our little dancers to be taken to and from their cars to the dance studio.

*If you are a dance parent interested in volunteering, please let us know.*

Policies for Instructors

  • Sanitation materials will be provided for each instructor - they will be wiping down instruments, seats, and door handles before and after each session
  • Instructors who are not vaccinated will wear their personal masks when interacting with students
  • As it pertains to our DSA Enrichment Courses, please know that DSA follows all health & safety protocols that are established by DBP and DCS.
  • Private Music Instructors must add a 5-10 minute gap between scheduled lessons to ensure the sanitation of the space and reduce families' cross-traffic as they enter and exit their lessons.
  • Dance Instructors must have 10-15 minutes between classes to sanitize the studio (bars, props, etc.)
  • When possible, our Dance & Group Instructors may place markers on the stage or dance floor to encourage students to maintain social distance.

However, we wish to emphasize that while we are taking a best-effort approach, we cannot guarantee a germ-free environment.  We encourage you to consider the circumstances and continue to make the most appropriate decisions for yourself and your household.

Part II: Your Response

While we have resumed classes/lessons, you still have a part to play in this process as well! Here are some important steps for your household to observe:

  • Stay home if you are sick. If you exhibit any symptoms of illness, we must insist that you refrain from visiting the DBC campus. You must be completely free of symptoms and have a normal body temperature for at least 24 hours without using a fever-reducing medicine before returning.
  • Establish and maintain a habit of frequent, thorough hand-washing with hot water and soap. Use hand sanitizer regularly between washings.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. If a tissue is not readily available, use the upper part of your arm/sleeve. Please do not carry used tissues around in a bag or pocket. Discard tissues immediately after the first use.
  • If you are traveling abroad, please pay attention to travel notice warnings from the CDC. If you or a household member visits a country under Level-2 or Level-3 warnings, we must insist that you wait 5-7 days before returning to our campus.

Policies for Students & Parents

  • Encourage your student(s) to use the restroom before arriving for lessons.
  • For those who are taking private music lessons, please limit the company to one parent/adult in the room with the student and instructor - NO siblings
  • You and/or your student(s) are welcome to wear their mask(s) as well as maintain their social distance while interacting with others.
  • OPTIONAL: Students can wear gloves and/or a mask when playing an instrument (DSA will provide supplies)
  • OPTIONAL: Use the carpool line for dancers being dropped off and picked up - staff or volunteer parents will be available to facilitate the carpool line for the little dancers to be taken to and from their cars to the dance studio, limiting any contact with additional people between lessons.

*If you are a dance parent interested in volunteering, please let us know.*

We look forward to seeing you all. With these policies and procedures in place, we believe this will be a great school year. Please know that as we move forward, we will continue to pray for God's wisdom and protection over you and your family during this time.
